Blackbeard’s Cay, New Providence Island

In 2015, STB, representing our community partner reEarth, won a landmark court case in which the attraction known as Blackbeard’s Cay was ordered shut down by the Supreme Court of The Bahamas because it was developed without the proper permits and approvals.

The government of the day refused to enforce the court order, and the developer continued to do as it pleased. Unfortunately, despite high hopes that a new administration would uphold the rule of law, the status quo has since remained. STB is therefore considering its options – which include applying to commit the relevant Cabinet Ministers to prison for contempt of court in ignoring an order of the Supreme Court.
