Canal Clean Sweep

In partnership with Waterkeeper Bahamas, Save The Bays patrols the Grand Bahama waterways, monitoring, collecting debris and gathering information on pollutants and derelict vessels.

Canal Clean Sweep is one of our Citizen Science Projects, aimed at getting our community involved in ensuring Grand Bahama can boast swimmable, fishable and drinkable water for all.

The island of Grand Bahama is filled with canal channels that have been polluted over the years with a considerable amount of trash and debris. Our recent Canal Sweeps have removed:

  • Plastics

  • Aluminium

  • Ropes

  • Styrofoam

  • Glass

These collected items are counted and tallied, disposed of correctly and enterend into our database.
